Journaling games are having their moment. I played dozens of them the past two years, designed a few, and in The Ink That Bleeds now I write about the aspects, practice, and fun of playing them, and show it with excerpts from my own actual play.
Topics covered include: “write to find out,” a writing method that supports immersion; why writing dialogue is so affecting; bleed in, of stuff from our lives into journal game experiences, and bleed out, of emotions and concerns from games into our outer lives; why journaling games are having their cultural moment; self care; playing your approximate self; worlds as relationships; and more.
